The boundaries of the intermediate city : connectivity and innovation

    Get PDF
This work links connectivity and innovation to set the scope of the second modernity of an intermediate city (Hermosillo, Sonora, M茅xico), setting up their restrictions as south-north node of the global city communication. The emerging diversity of the urban ecosystem is evaluated by relating the hypothetical existence of communication flows in one direction (north-south) on the functioning of multinationalcompanies. Innovation capacity is priced with the ranking of Science, Technology and Innovation (CTI) 2013 comparing capabilities and opportunities of state systemsof STI in Mexico. The study identifies structural limitations of the conventional approach to innovation and competitiveness and is opposed to the proposed smart cities organizing from below in its construction and its relation to local and regional development.Fil: Basurto Alvarez, Rodolfo. Deposition and Photocatalytic Activity of Ag:V2O5 Thin Films

In this work, the deposition and photocatalytic response of V2O5 thin films modified with different amounts of Ag (Ag:V2O5) is reported. Films were deposited on glass and silicon substrates (100), using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. A high purity vanadium target, with a different number of silver pellets attached on it were used. Thin films were characterized by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) to determine the elemental chemical composition; structural changes due to the addition of Ag were monitored by Raman spectroscopy; Optical microscopy was used to observe the surface morphology and UV-Vis spectroscopy was employed to determine optical properties. Photocatalytic response of the prepared films was studied through the degradation of a malachite green solution using a solar irradiation source.Authors thank to the CONACyT project CB-168827
